Benjamin Banneker
1731-1806
Taught to read by his grandmother. He is a self-taught mathematician and astronomer.
In 1753, Built the first clock in America modeled by a pocket watch.
In1788, Banneker started making astronomical calculations that led to his prediction of a solar eclipse that happened in 1789.
In February of 1791, he surveyed the Capital of the U.S including the streets and buildings.
He is well known for his 6 almanacs in 1792.
August 19, 1793, sent a letter to Thomas Jefferson on the injustice of slavery along with a copy of his almanacs.
